In order to have the best sounding drums, I owe all credit to the master artisan of the instrument, Mr. Soosainathan, affectionately known as Kumar. I have known him since 1992 when he used to tune the instruments for my grandfather, Shri. Palghat R. Raghu. And ever since, I have been privileged to have his utmost care and support for my art.
To me, he truly is the final word when it comes to "bespoke" kappi mridangams crafted in the vintage Tanjavur style. There is no sound like it!
